Advancing African-Americans at Work

While African-Americans are 12 percent of the U.S. workforce, they account for only 8 percent of managers and 2 percent of Fortune 500 executives.

In this conversation on the Harvard Business Review’s Ideacast, Laura Morgan Roberts, a professor of business at the University of Virginia, said that companies need to do more to help African-Americans advance.

“The question becomes, how do we put in place the structures, the systems and the social support that will enable African Americans and others of different racial backgrounds, including whites, to be able to lead most effectively?“ Roberts said.
